THE MALACHI TEST (90 DAYS)

In Malachi 3:10, God uniquely invites His people to "test" Him by trusting Him with their giving. The Malachi Test is a personal 90-day commitment to give faithfully and intentionally through the local church, trusting God with your finances and your future. Why 90 days? Sometimes a trial period is long enough to build a habit and short enough to take a step of faith.

This is not a promise of financial gain or a guarantee of a specific outcome. Rather, it's an invitation to step out in faith and experience God's faithfulness as He works in your heart, priorities, and trust in Him.

How to Begin the Malachi Test

#1 READ

Read Malachi 3:8-12 slowly and prayerfully.

#2 REFLECT

Journal privately, or discuss with your family, these questions:

#3 PRAY

You can pray this prayer verbatim-or express it in your own words:

"Father, You are my provider and my source. I confess that it can be difficult to trust You with my finances. Today, I choose to place my trust in You and not in my resources. Thank You for giving me Your Son and for every good gift You have already given. As I take this step of faith, grow my trust, shape my heart, and help me to walk in obedience with joy. I surrender this area of my life to You and ask You to use it for Your glory. Amen."

#4 RESPOND

For the next 90 days, prayerfully take a next step of generosity as an act of worship and trust. This step will look different for each person, depending on where you are on the Generosity Journey. There is no pressure or comparison - only an invitation to respond faithfully to what God is inviting you to do next.

Compassionate Giver

You can become a Compassionate Giver by giving for the first time through Cornerstone or by responding generously when God places a specific need on your heart. This first step of obedience matters deeply. If building financial margin would be helpful, you may also choose to sign up for Ramsey+ to support future generosity.

Consistent Giver

You can become a Consistent Giver by committing to a regular rhythm of giving - such as setting up weekly or monthly recurring gifts - allowing generosity to become a steady and intentional part of your worship.

Christ-First Giver

You can become a Christ-First Giver by choosing to put Christ first in your giving. For many, this includes beginning to give sacrificially at an amount greater than they are giving now, or to tithe (10%) as a joyful, faith-filled expression of gratitude for God's grace and trust in His provision.

Catalyst Giver

You can become a Catalyst Giver by giving above and beyond regular sacrificial giving with a one-time gift - supporting missions, youth camp scholarships, special ministry opportunities, or exploring legacy giving that helps multiply impact for generations to come.

There is no single "right" amount - only a faithful response. Seek the Lord, listen for His leading, and take the step He places on your heart, trusting Him to work both through your giving and within you.

#6 EVALUATE

At the end of the 90 days, take time to prayerfully reflect on what God has done. Look beyond numbers alone and consider how God may have provided in simple, meaningful ways-meeting needs, bringing peace, increasing contentment, or growing your trust and joy in Him. Often, God's faithfulness shows up not only in provision, but in how He shapes our hearts.

As you reflect, ask yourself whether you sensed God at work as you stepped out in faith. If so, consider continuing to give sacrificially as an ongoing act of worship and trust, allowing generosity to remain a growing part of your walk with Christ.

Set a calendar reminder for 3 months from today to reflect on God's faithfulness.

#7 ENCOURAGE (OPTIONAL)

If God showed up in meaningful ways during this season, we would love for you to share your story. Your testimony can encourage and strengthen others who are considering a step of faith. You'll have the option to keep it private to our pastors, or allow us to share it with others.
